In Search of Wonder
”Wonderful”
We’re all chasing something—dreams, stability, recognition, power, meaning, peace, answers. And if we’re honest, some of the things we chase don’t always lead where we hope they will. We believe that once we get there—once we achieve the thing, reach the goal, fill in the blank—then we’ll finally feel whole, secure, or enough. But while some pursuits leave us empty, others are deeply worth chasing. Things like faith, connection, generosity, and love. So it’s worth pausing to ask: what are you chasing?
Over 2,000 years ago, wise men chased after answers, following a star that would lead them to the promised Messiah. That star led them not to wealth or power, but to a child in a manger—Immanuel, God with us—the One who would be called Wonderful.
This watercolor piece reflects that sacred journey. The glowing sunset and the Star of Bethlehem point to the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy: “For unto us a Child is born… and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”—Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
The wise men followed a star and found everything they truly needed. The God full of Wonder. He is still worth chasing. And if you’re longing for a life that feels full, meaningful, and rooted in something eternal—search no further. Jesus is it.
KEEP THE CONVO GOING
1. When you think about your current season of life, what would you say you are chasing most right now? How has that pursuit made you feel—fulfilled, tired, hopeful, or empty?
2. The wise men followed a star without knowing exactly where it would lead. What does it look like to follow God when the outcome isn’t clear?
3. Have you ever reached a goal you thought would make you feel “enough,” only to realize it didn’t? What did that experience teach you about where true fulfillment comes from?
4. Isaiah calls Jesus “Wonderful.” What does that word mean to you personally, and how have you seen His wonder show up in your life?
5. Jesus is still worth chasing today, what might it look like for you to intentionally pursue Him in this season? What is one small, practical step you could take?
