You Are Not Alone
”Brokenhearted”
Of all the things I don’t like to hear this one hits the hardest. Heartbreak is inevitable. I really wish this wasn’t the case. We’re not promised to have an easy cushy life. We’re promised trials and sorrow, and along with that will inevitably come heartbreak. That’s part of the fallen world we live in. And while this is how it is on Earth for now, Jesus doesn’t leave us here to deal with the brokenness and devastation on our own.
While I was dealing with my own heartbreak, crying myself to sleep while my heart was aching over years of trying to have a baby to be left empty handed. Feeling utterly alone and unseen. I reached for my Bible and searched for words my heart desperately needed to hear. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalms 34:18 NLT I re-read those words over and over and over again until I believed it. And I felt so held by God. I felt His loving arms wrap around me and hold me as I cried myself to sleep. Even though my heart still ached, His embrace made me feel safe and seen.
What has broken your heart? A breakup? Loved one dying? Failure? Miscarriage? Divorce? Betrayal? Rejection? No matter what it may be, remember that God is close to the brokenhearted. Don’t try to figure it out. It’s not problem solving time. Just be. Run to His arms and let Him hold you as you grieve. Give Him all your fears. Tell God how your feeling, what your experiencing, what thoughts are racing through your mind. Sorrow is promised but so is the fact that God is close and rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Even if you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, know this isn’t the end. There’s hope. There’s healing in God’s arms. He will never leave you and will rescue you.
This sketch shows a skeleton holding its broken heart — that raw, empty feeling we all know too well. And then you notice Jesus’ hand resting gently on its shoulder, quietly reminding us that we are never alone. Even when we feel shattered, God is right there, ready to bring comfort and rescue. Heartbreak isn’t the end of your story — it’s the chapter that sets the stage for God to move in ways you never imagined.
KEEP THE CONVO GOING
1. When have you felt brokenhearted — and how did God show His presence in that moment?
2. Do you sense God close during your pain? If it’s hard to feel Him, ask Him to reveal that He’s right there with you.
3. Who in your life might need to hear that they are not alone right now?
4. What bible verses do you need to repeat over and over until you believe them in this situation?
5. Ask God: What do you want me to know about this situation? What do you want me to do in this situation? Then pause and listen to hear God speak to you. A bible verse may come to mind, a thought that wasn’t your own, a vision, dream, sermon that hits your heart…
